Sharon’s “GlamLife Project”

Posted on: October 26, 2008

We are happy to announce that Sharon from Michigan will be our first GlamLife Project participant! Below are her emails and photos that led to this invitation. Sharon first became a frequent caller to my radio show, and sent this email after one of our conversations:

Hi Eva,
This is Sharon from Michigan….I talked to you today on the radio about my hair. I loved your suggestion & am going to try it next week when I get my lites done again. I took a picture of my face to check the shape of my face, and was almost sick. I have a tan that is fading, but the huge circles under my eyes makes my face look like it is melting downward. I see all kinds of shows that have makeovers and was interested in getting one. Is that something you would do at your salon?? Take a person like me & let me be your guinea pig, change my hair, face makeup, etc.? I know my chances of getting it done through a t.v. show are nil & none. But I was also wondering what can be done with my face to make me look a bit more youthful. I know that alot of it is my fault due to my lifestyle. I am 49 now, I lost my husband unexpectedly 2 yrs ago. There were some other circumstances following his death that added to my stress level that is very personal. I work in a high stress job, I am a 911 police/fire dispatcher & my husband was an officer where I work. I went through horrible depression, didn’t eat & when I did it was crap! I stopped living basically, cleaning, caring about myself, exercising. I became extremely sedate and am fighting now to get out of that rut (I’m feeling much better physically & mentally) but the last 2 yrs has taken its toll on me. I would have no problem coming to New York as my sisters and I are planning a sisters weekend, we just hadn’t decided where yet. Or if you could recommend somewhere local here in the Detroit area (I live just west of Detroit) that might want to “play” with my hair & face. I have even thought of having an eye lift but don’t know what can be done under my eyes in the black circle area. I understand if you are too busy to get back with me. If I don’t hear from you, I enjoyed talking to you today. And will be trying the medium to long bob with layers that you suggested. I will let you know the results or send you a picture.

Thanks,
Sharon A. C.
Then we asked for Sharon to send us pictures of herself:
Hi Eva,

I hope these pictures help you a little. To give you a little info about me, I am 49yrs old, 5′5/165, but recently started weight watchers, so hopefully I will loose a few pounds. My normal haircolor is medium to light brown with golden & red highlights that come out in the sun naturally. When the gray came, I could not afford to go to a salon and colored it at home. Never finding a right color & too many oops, I finally went to a salon, we grew it out & now she hi lites it but has gone lighter & lighter each time I go. I am normally not this blonde however I do like it, but I liked my original color as well. I am normally fair skin with fading freckles (except in the summer) & recovering from a bad break out of rosecea. I do normally tan pretty well when I do it properly in the summer & hold color in my skin, which of course I love since I am so pale in the winter. I am not sure what else you need or want to know, but feel free to keep asking questions. Sorry I don’t have any pictures with just me in them & I was babysitting all day today for my grandson (he’s in all the pictures) & couldn’t get the side & back of my hair for you.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Sincerely,

Sharon A. C, Michigan

Sharon - YOU GO GIRL!!! CONGRATULATIONS~!!!!! I recently discovered Eva and her beauty show on Sirus radio. I travel a whole lot for work. I could listen to her show and all of the fantastic tips much longer than she is on the radio!! I wish you the very best, Sharon. You deserve it… and, by the way: you are already gorgeous!!!

    Have fun!

Hay Sharon, Congratulations!!!! So fun!!!! From your pixs, it looks like you have that irish skin, like I have, and freckles. If you can, please let me know what Eva’s advice is on skin care and makeup application…. It seems I can never get it right. Thanks and have a great time

Thank you, I am sooooo excited to be involved in this. I never expected this to happen when I sent my little mini bio. I started walking last week when the the weather was warm with the anticipation of working out at a gym soon. I really want to get healthy especially as the years are creeping up. I want to be very active in my older years and know at the rate I was going, that was never going to happen. I knew it would take awhile to get out of the grieving process, but I did not realize the toll it would take on my body. I didn’t care about my appearance and that also went downhill. This makeover is giving me a whole new outlook and I cannot wait. I will show lots of pictures and let you all know how wonderful I am sure it will be.

    Sharon,
Congratulations! As I was reading your letter - I kept saying to myself that you must look a lot like me. From size to hair color (mine is also colored blond)to skin color, freckles even recently going to Weight Watchers! So will be anxious to see what suggestions they have for you! Have a great time!

I want to thank Eva Scrivo, Erik, Allison, Gwen and all the great people I met in New York. It was a great trip and I had a fabulous day at the salon. They all treated me fantastic and I am very grateful for their time spent on just me. The haircut is the best I have ever had. The color looks superb and I have had nothing but compliments since I got home. What is great about this cut, is that I really don’t have to do anything. I wash and blow dry!!!! That’s it!! Alot of times I will go a day without washing, i just brush it and it falls right into place. I can foof it up a bit or just leave it. Today I was lazy, I brushed it, put on a headband and off I went. That was it. And I still got compliments. I can’t thank everyone there enough for everything from Allison’s beautiful choice of color to Gwen making up my face before the camera and our small talk about makeup. Everyone there is highly skilled and very friendly. My thanks to Eva’s husband Erik who was with us throughout the day keeping everything going smoothly. And a great thanks to the camera crew who were just as kind and complimentary to me. If you go to my myspace page, it is set private, but I believe you can see the photo of my hair do. It was taken the night of the makeover, when Eva sent me to her good friends restaurant, Hundred Acres in New York. The food was fantastic. I also cannot forget to thank Jeff Bell for giving me so much of his time and tips. We spent a few hours on fitness and some on nutrition. Again, another very kind and knowledgeable man, who was great!! I am on the 12 week plan for now, but plan to make this my way of life. I want to feel better for the rest of my life, and this is just my start. I want to prove to him and more so to myself that I can and will do this. I plan to be around for a very long time and want to be fit throughout the rest of my life.

p.s. I should not want to forget Lindsay and Tanisha for all they did as well. They did alot of the planning and paperwork and I thank them for their help.

  8. Ollie Says:

Good post. I think it is possible to recover from depression, but it takes time and patience. I can’t find any good message boards on the net, can you recommend any?

  9. evascrivo Says:

    Hi Ollie,

Are you referring to a message board for beauty or something else? If you would like I know some very trusted psychotherapists that could possibly recommend a good message board for you to look at.

    Best,

    Eva
