Summer Hair Color
Posted on: June 28, 2010Many women start asking to go lighter for this time of year, wanting the sun-kissed look- without the sun. This request to go lighter and brighter is easily met by your colorist, but it is important for both of you to remember that the extra time in the sun is going to lighten your hair naturally! Combined with the bleach highlights, it can give you less-than-desirable results. Concentrate on keeping your hair protected and healthy, instead of how blond it can get. You’ll be happy you did when your locks are still luscious come fall.

Hi Eva,
I love to listen to your radio show on Martha, even try to leave work early so that I can listen to all of it. I have changed are products because of you. I would know like to know if you have a suggestion on a hair professional in the Indianapolis Indiana area?
Thanks Katy

Hi Katy,
Thank you so much for listening to my show, I’m so glad that you get a lot out of it. Unfortunately, at this time I don’t know of anyone to recommend in the Indianapolis area. I will certainly let you know if that changes. If you’re ever in NY, please schedule a complimentary consultation with me or one of our stylists.

Hi Eva,
I too love your radio show. I am interested in a new style and understand you hail from Michigan. I live Northville, MI, any suggestions around southeastern Michigan would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lynn,
I recommend that you see my friend (whose name is also Lynn) at the Lance Vincent Salon in West Bloomfield. Her last name is Blanchard. The number of the salon is 248-626-9900. I think you’ll love her but please let me know how it works out for you!

Hi Eva,
I manage to catch part of your show on XM most weeks and love the info you provide. I have always had very light ash blonde hair but it is darkening a bit now that I’m in my 40s. I haven’t had much luck with colourists as they often balance the blonde with reddish or very golden caramel lowlights, which doesn’t suit my very cool/blue based complexion. Do you have any recommendations for a good colourist/stylist in Atlanta who may be able to help?

Hi Eva,
I gray often and my natural hair color is dark brown. I need to color my hair every two weeks. I have a busy schedule during the day and I need to color my hair late at night. I have long hair and my long ends feel like a bird’s nest. WHat product do you suggest?

Hi Maria,
If the ends of your hair are very dry and easily tangle, what you really need is a good haircut to cut off all that damage. While styling products will coat your hair with silicone and may provide some temporary relief, they will not address the real problem. It sounds like you’ve been coloring your hair at home, which is probably what caused the damage in the first place (especially if you’re using permanent color). Often, drug store hair color dries and dehydrates the hair, particularly if applied as often as you do it. Perhaps you can find a salon in your area that is open late in the evening, where a professional can maintain your color without causing further damage to your hair. Hope this helps.

Hi Janine,
I actually have a client coming to see me in a week or two who just moved to NY from Atlanta. She’d had similar problem with red tones in her hair. I will ask her if she knows of a good colorist to recommend.
